Trump: Zelensky is ready to accept Russian sovereignty over Crimea
The US president claimed that the Ukrainian president is ready to recognize Russian sovereignty over the Crimean Peninsula.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to France24, US President Donald Trump claimed that his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky is ready to recognize and cede Russian sovereignty over Crimea.

Trump also intensified pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that he must stop the attacks and "stop the shooting" and sign an agreement to end the war that began in February 2022.

Trump's claim was made after his meeting with Zelensky in St. Peter's Basilica on the sidelines of the funeral of Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic world, in the Vatican.

Asked whether he thought Zelensky was prepared to do so, given Zelensky's insistence on not surrendering Crimea, Trump replied curtly: "I think so!"

He also claimed that during the talks in the Vatican, the two sides briefly discussed the fate of the island, which was annexed by Moscow in 2014.

The 78-year-old US president, who had claimed before winning the election that he would end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, has now failed to stop the war more than 100 days into his second term.

Kiev and its Western allies fear that Trump will take steps in line with Moscow's positions and interests. Of course, Trump has also turned to a policy of intimidation and threats against Putin in recent days!
