Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Various cities in Pakistan’s Balochistan province witnessed a general strike and protest rallies today. These actions were taken following a call by the Baloch Solidarity Council and in protest of police violence against protesters.
Mahrang Baloch, the head of the Baloch Solidarity Council, called on the people of Balochistan to go on strike today last night in response to the violent actions of the Pakistani police to disperse the council’s members and supporters in the city of Quetta.
During these protests, clashes occurred that resulted in the injury of 13 protesters and 10 police officers in different cities of Balochistan.
Areas like Dalbandin, Torbat, Mastung, Chagai, Dera Murad Jamali, Khuzdar and Panjgur are also currently on general strike.
Local media reported that Mahrang Baloch and a number of members of the Baloch Solidarity Council were arrested this morning in Quetta by Pakistani police and security officials. However, the Balochistan local government has not yet confirmed this news.
The Baloch Solidarity Council is demanding the return of the forcibly disappeared to their homes. The strike reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the recent actions of the Pakistani police and government.
