Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): US President Donald Trump issued an order on Friday to revoke the security clearances of Joe Biden, his family and former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to which these individuals will no longer be allowed access to classified information.
Trump wrote while issuing this order: I have concluded that it is no longer in the national interest for these individuals to have access to classified information.
Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in the Biden administration and former White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan are also on this list of 15 people.
Trump also demanded that these individuals be stripped of their “unescorted access” to U.S. government security facilities.
According to Politico, it is unclear what official security clearances some of the individuals on the list hold.
Trump had previously announced his intention to revoke Biden’s security clearance in February, and U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said on March 10 that she had revoked the access of Blinken, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and others on Trump’s orders.
According to ISNAF, Trump’s move comes after Joe Biden also denied Trump access to classified documents in 2021, arguing that he could not be trusted due to “unreasonable behavior.”
The security clearances of former U.S. presidents and some high-ranking security officials are usually preserved as a diplomatic tradition.
