Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: US President Donald Trump once again repeated his controversial claim about having "leverage" over Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump, who has always emphasized the need to end the Ukrainian war since the beginning of his second term, stated in an interview with reporters: "I have leverage over Putin, but I don't want to talk about it right now."
Referring to Putin’s recent remarks about the war in Ukraine, he said they were a sign of Russia’s desire to reduce tensions, adding: “The Russian president’s recent statements have been positive and could pave the way for a ceasefire agreement that could ultimately lead to lasting peace.”
In another part of his remarks, Trump once again raised his controversial idea of annexing Greenland to the United States. “I think Greenland will happen. We need it for international security,” he said in the Oval Office of the White House.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who was present at the meeting, declined to comment directly on the issue, but said: “Security in the Arctic region is becoming increasingly important, and NATO needs to have an active presence in the region.”
Greenland, the world’s largest island, is an autonomous territory under Danish rule and is of interest to world powers due to its strategic location in the Arctic and its rich natural resources. Donald Trump had previously raised the idea of buying Greenland from Denmark in 2019, but this proposal was met with a negative reaction from the Danish government.
Trump's latest remarks come as the war in Ukraine has become one of the main axes of US foreign policy and efforts to stop this war have become one of the serious issues in the upcoming election debates.
