North Korea: Washington should abandon military threats
A North Korean Defense Ministry official said today (Saturday, February 15) that if the United States is concerned about the security of its homeland, it should abandon military threats.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): While Donald Trump has announced during the election campaign and in recent days that he has good relations with Kim Jong Un, North Korea responded to the recent warning from the top US military official.

The comments from Washington and Pyongyang officials come at a time when Donald Trump has repeatedly referred to his meetings with Kim Jong Un during his first term as president, saying that "we had a good working relationship."

Despite three meetings between Trump and Kim during his first administration, disagreements over issues such as Washington's military presence on the Korean Peninsula and repeated US insistence on North Korea's denuclearization have continued to this day.

North Korea's official news agency KCNA quoted a defense ministry official as saying Washington should stop making military threats against North Korea.

The response came after the head of the US Northern Command warned yesterday that North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missiles could reach the US mainland.

The North Korean defense ministry official responded by saying that it was the United States that was taking countermeasures, such as planning war games with South Korea and sending a nuclear submarine to the Korean peninsula.

He also said that it was "North Korea's sovereign right to improve its defense capabilities."
