Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The UN Security Council has identified the Khorasan branch of ISIS as a major threat to Afghanistan, the region and the world.
The council members discussed the threats of ISIS and expressed concerns about the activities and recruitment of new forces to the group.
At the meeting, representatives of the United States, Russia and Pakistan took the threat of ISIS seriously and called for concrete measures to eliminate it.
"ISIS Khorasan continues to pose terrorist threats against Afghanistan, the region and the world," said Vladimir Ivanovich Voronkov, head of the UN Office for the Counter-Terrorism. In addition to attacks inside Afghanistan, ISIS has carried out terrorist activities in Europe and has tried to recruit from Central Asian countries. There are also reports that foreign terrorists continue to travel to Afghanistan in smaller numbers.”
The United States has also expressed concern about the ability of ISIS in Afghanistan and the region.
"ISIS-affiliated groups in Central Asia, especially the Khorasan faction of ISIS, are also a global threat," said Dorothy Shea, the US envoy to the UN Security Council. "We are also concerned about the ability of Khorasan ISIS to plan, carry out attacks, as well as recruitment efforts, especially in Afghanistan and Pakistan."
The Pakistani representative, however, exaggerated the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan, saying: "There are currently more than 20 terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan and the country has become the main center for financing, facilitating and recruiting ISIS. "As stated in the report of the monitoring teams, I would like to reiterate that Afghanistan is the main recruitment center for ISIS and we reject any claim that Pakistan is harboring ISIS and we are at war with ISIS and the TTP."
The Russian ambassador also added that the increase in ISIS activity in Afghanistan is not accidental and without roots. He said the remaining US weapons in Afghanistan had fallen into the hands of ISIS.
"We cannot ignore the situation in Afghanistan and the growing activities of ISIS in Afghanistan," said Vasily Nebenzia, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations. This is not a coincidence. "The NATO forces that quickly left Afghanistan left behind large amounts of weapons and equipment that then fell into the hands of ISIS and its affiliates."
"Terrorist organizations such as ISIS and al-Qaeda are very active in Afghanistan and are cooperating with each other," said Fu Kang, Chinese ambassador to the United Nations. They not only weaken the security situation in Afghanistan, but also undermine regional and international peace and security. "China calls on the interim government to take concrete and verifiable steps to destroy all terrorist organizations based in Afghanistan."
However, the Islamic Emirate has repeatedly said that ISIS has been suppressed in Afghanistan and that no arbitrary individual or group will be allowed to carry out terrorist activities that threaten the region and the world.
