Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Afghanistan has scored 17 out of 100 points in the Corruption Perceptions Index, three points lower than in 2023, according to the report.
Afghanistan's score on the index was 20 in 2023 and 24 in 2022.
In this index, a score of 100 indicates no corruption and zero indicates widespread corruption, meaning that Afghanistan will experience more widespread corruption in 2024 than in the previous two years.
Denmark, Finland and Singapore top the list with 90, 88 and 84 points respectively, while South Sudan, Somalia and Venezuela are at the bottom with 8, 9 and 10 points respectively.
Transparency International's report is not based on public opinion polls, but on expert analysis and economic surveys from 13 external sources that the organization does not directly interfere with.
But what does the corruption perception index include?
The index includes issues such as bribery, embezzlement of public property, personal use of government agencies by officials, the government's ability to control corruption, unnecessary bureaucracy, family appointments in the public sector, legal support for corruption whistleblowers, access to information on government activities, and financial transparency laws.
However, citizens' direct perception of corruption, tax evasion, illegal financial flows, money laundering, private sector corruption and illegal economic activities are not considered in this index.
In the Corruption Perception Index, Afghanistan scored the lowest in 2012, eight, and the highest score in 2022, with 24.
