The US president pardoned his son despite previous promises not to interfere in his son's legal cases. Meanwhile, Donald Trump described Biden's action as an abuse of justice.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Joe Biden on Sunday issued a full pardon for his son Hunter, exempting him from potential punishment in tax and gun cases. The US president said in a statement that "no reasonable person can conclude anything other than that Hunter was targeted simply because he is his son, and this is unfair."
The US president also stressed that he has faith in the judicial system, but believes that politics have interfered in the process and led to a "miscarriage" of justice. He said: "I hope Americans understand why a father and a president would reach such a decision."
Hunter Biden was found guilty in June. In September, he also pleaded guilty to tax evasion. Biden's decision contradicts previous statements by him and the White House. Biden has repeatedly said that he "will not interfere in his son's legal affairs."
Hunter Biden's legal problems are a major challenge for the current US president. Political opponents are using these cases to accuse the Biden family of corruption and abuse of political power.
According to Deutsche Welle, Hunter Biden, a lawyer and businessman, had previously written in his memoir about his struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. The early death of his older brother Beau from cancer in 2015 was cited as one of the main factors in his addiction. Hunter claims to have overcome his addiction since 2019.
Meanwhile, US President-elect Donald Trump, in response to US President Joe Biden's pardon of his son Hunter Biden, who was found guilty in three criminal cases, said: "This decision is an abuse of justice."
On the other hand, Elon Musk, the famous American billionaire and owner of the social network "X", who has been appointed by US President-elect Donald Trump as the Secretary of "Government Productivity", says that the decision of the current President of the country, Joe Biden, to pardon his son is questioning the integrity of America.
