Iran's response to the IAEA resolution; launching a set of new and advanced centrifuges

22 Nov 2024 - 12:49

Following the issuance of an anti-Iranian resolution by the IAEA Board of Governors, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran announced that he had issued an order to take effective measures, including launching a diverse set of new and advanced centrifuges of various types.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: A joint statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran regarding the "unjustified resolution" issued by the IAEA Board of Governors regarding Iran's "peaceful nuclear program" states: In the last hours of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, a non-consensus resolution was passed on Iran's peaceful nuclear program, under pressure and insistence from three European countries (Germany, France, and the United Kingdom) and the United States, and despite the lack of support from about half of the member states.
This is despite the fact that, according to this statement, the principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been based on constructive interaction with the International Atomic Energy Agency within the framework of the rights and obligations specified under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, and based on this policy, the 14th government has placed on its agenda, since its establishment, the continuation and promotion of cooperation with the Agency with the aim of resolving mutual issues.
According to these two institutions, within the framework of this principled approach, Iran welcomed the visit of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency to Tehran and made the necessary planning to provide the basis for further interactions and the success of the visit. The Director General of the Agency's visit to Iran, his meetings with high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and visits to the enrichment complexes of Martyr Dr. Alimohammadi and Martyr Engineer Ahmadi Roshan, and the negotiations that took place, created a suitable basis for strengthening the interactions between Iran and the Agency.
However, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in such circumstances, the three European governments and the United States - which have a long history of blatant non-compliance with their commitments, including in the framework of the JCPOA and resorting to cruel sanctions and illegal pressures against the Iranian people - instead of helping to maintain the constructive atmosphere created between Iran and the Agency, they did not even wait for the results of the Agency Director General's visit and, in a counterproductive and unjustified move, presented a resolution against Iran in the Board of Governors. Of course, this resolution did not receive the support of half of the members of the Board of Governors, which itself indicates their opposition to the political and destructive approach of the resolution's founders.
The National Atomic Energy Organization of Iran emphasized: This politicized, unrealistic and destructive approach distorts the positive atmosphere created and the understandings resulting from it. Such an action, at a time when Iran and the Agency were on the path of constructive interaction, once again proved that the three European governments and the United States are not honest in their claim to maintain the Agency's credibility and that the Iranian nuclear issue is merely an excuse and pretext to advance their illegitimate goals.
According to this joint statement, the competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran at various levels had previously announced that any countermeasures and abuse of the IAEA Board of Governors to advance illegitimate and political goals would be met with a reciprocal response from Iran. The details of Iran’s possible response have already been communicated to the Director General of the Agency.
Accordingly, the Head of the Iranian Energy Organization issued an order to take effective measures, including the launch of a significant set of new and advanced centrifuges of various types. Obviously, these measures are being taken in order to protect the country’s interests and further develop the peaceful nuclear industry, in line with the growing national needs and within the framework of Iran’s rights and obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.
At the same time, the National Atomic Energy Organization has noted that Iran’s technical and safeguards cooperation with the Agency will continue as before and within the framework of the Safeguards Agreement.
In the end, it was stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran remains ready to engage constructively with relevant parties based on international legal principles and standards, and the principled policy of protecting the rights and interests of the great Iranian nation and developing a peaceful and indigenous nuclear program will continue with seriousness.

This comes as the anti-Iran resolution by the three European countries that are members of the JCPOA, with the support of the United States, was approved by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency this morning, Friday, December 2. The resolution, which was submitted by the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, was approved with 19 votes in favor, 12 abstentions, and three votes against.
The countries of Russia, China, and Burkina Faso voted against this anti-Iran resolution.
Diplomats say that the resolution accuses Iran of not fully cooperating with the Agency and calls on Tehran to improve cooperation with the Agency.
The Associated Press wrote that in this resolution, the Board of Governors asked the Agency to prepare a “comprehensive and updated assessment” of Iran’s nuclear program by the spring of 2025.
The Board of Governors also asks Iran to provide answers about the discovery of uranium particles at two locations claimed by the Agency.
