The Russian Foreign Minister called the goal of the Israeli regime to destroy Hamas unrealistic

29 Jul 2024 - 10:01

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in a joint press conference with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohammad Hassan this morning that the Israeli regime's goal of completely destroying the Palestinian Hamas movement is an unrealistic goal.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced this morning, Sunday, in a joint press conference with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohammad Hassan at the end of his visit to Kuala Lumpur, the target that the Israeli authorities want to destroy.

In response to a question about this, he said: "There is no prospect of stopping the bleeding. The Israeli side has repeatedly, including through Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in response to the requests of the international community to immediately stop military actions, has declared that it will not stop until the complete destruction of Hamas. In my opinion, and this view is also shared by many of my colleagues, this is an unrealistic goal - the complete destruction of an organization that exists, has sufficient facilities and enjoys widespread support, including in the Islamic world, will not be so easily possible. »

Lavrov also emphasized that Russia condemns "all terrorist acts carried out by any structure".

The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that Russia had previously condemned the attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023. However, he considered the retaliatory actions of the Israeli regime, the victims of which are the defenseless Palestinian people living in the Gaza Strip, unacceptable and said: "These actions are a clear violation of international humanitarian law and as a collective punishment of the people, which is prohibited by international conventions.

On the other hand, the head of the Russian diplomatic service warned that the deployment of American nuclear weapons in Southeast Asian countries creates many security risks for the entire region. Sergey Lavrov reminded that elements of nuclear deterrence already exist in this region in the form of the AUKUS project (trilateral defense alliance between Australia, Great Britain and the United States). According to this project, nuclear submarines will be equipped with technologies that should be under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Russian Foreign Minister added: "In NATO, the United States has distributed its nuclear weapons to five partner countries for a long time. They describe the move as joint nuclear missions where non-nuclear nations can train their military to use and deliver nuclear weapons. "If this dangerous experience spreads to Southeast Asia, I think no one will benefit from it and the risks will increase."

According to Tasnim, Lavrov said these words in response to the final announcement of the July 10 NATO meeting, regarding the desire to expand cooperation with the countries of the Indo-Pacific region due to its direct impact on Euro-Atlantic security.

The Russian Foreign Minister met and talked with his Malaysian counterpart, Mohammad Hassan, in Kuala Lumpur. Before the start of the talks, the foreign ministers took a picture as per the usual tradition, and Lavrov left a note in the guest book. Lavrov had left for the Malaysian capital last night, Saturday, from Laos, where he attended several ministerial meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
