The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan informs about the meeting and discussion of the minister of this ministry with his Turkmen counterpart about the situation in Afghanistan and the TAPI project.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has published a statement announcing the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Muradov.

According to the announcement of the two sides, in this meeting, they emphasized the importance of developing economic and energy cooperation, including the TAPI project.

The announcement states: "The two sides have agreed to intensify joint efforts to further expand and deepen bilateral cooperation, including political, economic and defense fields."

The practical work of the Tapi gas pipeline project was officially started in 2018 in Herat province, but after some time, the work of this project was stopped due to some unknown problems.

Earlier, the authorities of the Islamic Emirate have repeatedly demanded the implementation of the TAPI project from Afghanistan and have assured the security of this project.

However, the Islamic Emirate and the country of Turkmenistan have not officially announced when the work of the TAPI project will start again.

The total length of the Tapi gas pipeline is 1,814 km and this pipeline transfers Turkmenistan's gas to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan. This pipeline passes through the provinces of Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand and Kandahar, and 816 km out of a total of 1,814 km is stretched in Afghanistan.
The start of TAPI pipeline project

Tapi pipeline has the annual capacity to transfer 33 billion cubic meters of gas to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Afghanistan, which has a transit role in this project, is also one of the buyers of imported gas.

According to the agreement, Afghanistan will buy three billion cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan in three decades.

Along the Tapi gas pipeline route, 12 pressure pumps will be installed, five of which will be built in Afghanistan worth one billion dollars. In this way, Herat is the first province that will make cheaper and wider use of imported energy.
