OCHA expressed concern over the severe lack of funds for the humanitarian needs program in Afghanistan

2 Jul 2024 - 9:27

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid (OCHA) has expressed concern about the severe lack of funds for the "Afghanistan Humanitarian Needs and Response Program" this year.

Afghan Voice News Agency (Ava) - Kabul: Ucha said in a post on X that they have received only 696 million dollars so far, which is 22.8% of their initial request.

Ocha had previously announced that in 2024, 23.7 million people in Afghanistan will need humanitarian aid, and relief organizations have prioritized the treatment of 17 million people. This institution added that 3.06 billion dollar budget is needed to deal with these people.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has said that due to lack of funds, life-saving programs have been forced to close and additional activities are at risk without immediate funding.

In the middle of last month, OCHA reported that it had received only 20.1% of the requested budget for providing assistance to the people of Afghanistan, and it was facing a significant lack of funds.

This body asked the donor countries to provide predictable, early, unlimited and multi-year budgets to effectively respond to the needs of the Afghan people.
