After an American soldier was accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Japan, the public prosecutor's office of Okinawa province in the south of the country accused another US Navy soldier of sexually assaulting a village woman.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): An American soldier from the special forces of the marines has been accused of sexually assaulting a village woman in the public prosecutor's office of Okinawa, Japan.

CGTN reported that the Naha Public Prosecutor's Office, central Okinawa, announced on Friday that on June 17, a case was filed against US soldier Lance Gemmell Clayton.

According to the indictment filed against Clayton, he sexually assaulted a village woman on May 26 in a village in Yomitan, leaving the Japanese citizen with injuries that took two weeks to heal.

In addition, in the past few days, a member of the US Air Force was accused of kidnapping a girl under the age of 16 and sexually assaulting her.

Okinawa hosts 70% of the US military bases in Japan, which is only 0.6% of the country's total land area. The crimes of American soldiers and civilians are one of the factors that have provoked the anger of the local people towards them.

It is expected that the latest cases of sexual assaults by American soldiers and disrespect to the residents will further fuel the opposition of the local people to the American military presence in this region. Many times American soldiers have been accused of committing sexual crimes against Japanese citizens.

According to ISNA, in response to this news, Hayashi Yoshimasa, the first secretary of the Japanese cabinet, said that the government regretted the attempt of one of the personnel of the US marines in Okinawa province to sexually assault a girl. Hayashi said that U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Okano Masataka conveyed his regret over this matter to U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel and called for stricter discipline and comprehensive measures to prevent its recurrence.
