Officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock say that Afghan saffron won the first place in terms of taste and quality in the "Belgium International Taste Institute" for the ninth time.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Misbahuddin Mostain, the head of information and public awareness of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, informed about this issue in an interview with AVA reporter today (Tuesday, June 4).

According to him, Afghanistan's saffron for the ninth time in the International Taste Institute of Belgium, which was taken from the saffron of "Herati Saffron" company on behalf of Afghanistan, was tested in the laboratory, in terms of taste and quality, the first place and statue (Superior Taste). 

Mr. Mustain adds that every year the saffron quality test is taken from all saffron-producing countries at Zaiqeh International Institute in Belgium, and Afghan saffron this year has won the first place in terms of quality and taste, as in previous years.

He continued that this institute evaluates the food products of different countries of the world every year based on specific criteria and according to the evaluations of the mentioned institute, Afghan saffron Tandis received the best taste.

The head of information and awareness of the Ministry of Agriculture considered saffron as one of the valuable industrial plants of Afghanistan.

He says that according to the information of the Department of Statistics and Agricultural Information of the Ministry of Agriculture in 1402 AH, a total area of ​​8,304 hectares of land was under saffron cultivation in 26 provinces of the country, from which 23,249 metric tons of saffron were collected. 22,240 metric tons of it was taken from Herat province.

Mr. Mustain added that the construction of demonstration pieces, distribution of saffron onions, processing and packaging equipment and provision of technical guidance are among the works that the Ministry of Agriculture has done for the country's saffron growers and is trying to increase these activities.
