Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam J. Shankar said at a ceremony in Calcutta in response to the US threat to sanction trade with Iran and sign the Chabahar Port Development Agreement that we have a long relationship with Chabahar Port and this agreement is in the interest of the entire region.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam J Shankar today (Wednesday) in response to the warnings of the United States regarding the 10-year agreement between Tehran and New Delhi for the development of Chabahar port, stated that this agreement is for the benefit of the entire region. Is. Speaking at an event organized by Calcutta Citizens Initiative in Kolkata, Jaishankar said, "We have a long-standing relationship with Charbahar port but we were never able to sign a long-term agreement.

"A long-term agreement is essential because without it, you cannot improve port operations, which we believe will benefit the entire region," the Indian foreign minister said.

According to Fars, the Indian Foreign Minister told reporters in this regard, "I witnessed that statements were made...people should not have a limited and short-sighted view. It's about communicating and persuading and persuading people to understand that such a thing is in everyone's interest."

This is despite the fact that earlier, sources in the Indian Foreign Ministry downplayed the statements of the US Foreign Ministry spokesperson about the India-Iran agreement and said that he was not fully aware of the facts.

It should be mentioned that during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Iran 8 years ago, a tripartite agreement was signed by India, Iran and Afghanistan to create an international transport and transit corridor (Chabahar Agreement).

It has been said that so far a total of 2.5 million tons of wheat and 2000 tons of pulses have been transported from India to Afghanistan through Chabahar port.

"Abdulsalam Javad Akhundzadeh", the spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the country, had previously said that most of Afghanistan's exports and imports take place through Iran's Chabahar port, therefore, it is not 100% dependent on any of the neighboring countries.

Chabahar port is of special importance for Afghanistan. Because in recent years, Pakistan has used the port of Karachi, which is the most important sea transit route used by Afghanistan, as a lever.

Last year, around 3,000 containers belonging to the country's businessmen were seized in Karachi port for months.
