America: Arresting our citizens is an important obstacle to interaction with the Taliban
Matthew Miller, the spokesman of the US Department of State, said that the detention of citizens of this country by the Islamic Emirate is an important obstacle in Washington's positive interaction with the current government of Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The spokesperson of the US Foreign Ministry stated this issue in a press conference on Wednesday night, February 28.

In response to a question about the American hostages in the Islamic Emirate prison, Miller said that "the United States demands the immediate and unconditional release of the American citizens from the Taliban prison."

He added: "The arrest of American citizens is an important obstacle in the positive interaction of the United States with the Taliban."

The number of American prisoners in Afghanistan is not known, and the Islamic Emirate has confirmed that some of them are prisoners, but has not provided accurate statistics.

According to Miller, the American authorities have always demanded the unconditional release of the citizens of this country from the prison of the Islamic Emirate.

It should be mentioned that the Islamic Emirate arrested Ryan Corbett, an American citizen in Afghanistan in August 2022.

Regarding the fate of this American prisoner, Miller noted: "The American government has consistently emphasized the immediate and unconditional release of Americans detained in Afghanistan in its meetings with Taliban representatives."

It is not yet clear on what charges this American citizen was arrested.

Previously, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an American official, that the Islamic Emirate demanded the release of Mohammad Rahim Al-Afghani, who has been in Guantanamo prison since 2008, in exchange for the release of Ryan Corbett.
