Pakistani elections began under strict security measures

Pakistan's national and state assembly elections began this morning (Thursday, April 8) with the participation of different strata of people in more than 90,000 polling stations across the country under strict security measures.


Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: 270,000 army troops, along with more than 150,000 police, border and anti-terrorism forces, will put Pakistan's elections today in cities across the country, including Islamabad, under strict security measures. .
 
Voting started today at eight in the morning local time in different parts of Pakistan with the large presence of people and domestic and foreign observers, and voting will continue until 05:00 in the evening.
 
In this year's elections in Pakistan, 128 million 585 thousand 760 people are eligible to vote, of which more than 69 million 263 thousand are men and more than 59 million 322 thousand are women.
 
The head of the Election Commission of Pakistan said yesterday that this commission has prepared the preparations for holding transparent and fair elections in all regions of Pakistan.
 
But this election started while Pakistan witnessed three terrorist and suicide bombings against candidates and electoral offices yesterday, which left dozens dead and injured. ISIS has claimed responsibility for these attacks.
 
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has announced that to ensure the security of the elections, the common borders with Afghanistan and Iran will be closed.
 
The ministry has written in a note on the X channel that these borders will be closed for the passage of cargo and pedestrians today on the 19th of April, and traffic from Pakistan's borders with Afghanistan and Iran will resume on Friday (April 9).
 
Earlier, Pakistani customs officials announced that the country's border crossings with Afghanistan will be closed for 24 hours from Thursday midnight.
