Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Officials of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Department of Environmental Protection, today (Monday, April 5) held a joint press conference at the Government Information and Media Center regarding the international climate change conference held at Nangarhar University.

Lotfollah Khairkhah, Deputy Scientific Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, said in this press conference that an international conference on climate change will be held next week at Nangarhar University, in which high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate, professors and experts from domestic and foreign universities will attend in person and online.

Mr. Khairkhah considered climate change to be a vital issue and added that there should be a proper interaction with this issue.

According to the deputy minister of higher education, in this international conference on climate change, by presenting 140 articles and researches, an attempt is made to share the results and scientific findings with the world community about Afghanistan's vulnerability to climate change.

Maulvi Abdul Salam Haqqani, deputy director of the National Environmental Protection Agency, said that through the international climate change conference at Nangarhar University, the results of scientific and research articles on the adverse effects of climate change on Afghanistan will be shared with the world community.

The deputy of the National Environmental Protection Agency added that Afghanistan has been severely affected by climate change due to wars, and for this reason, 21 million people are currently facing a shortage of drinking water.

Mr. Haqqani added that in this conference we will convey this message to the world community that climate change is a humanitarian issue and should not be viewed from a political perspective.

According to him, Afghanistan is most affected by climate change, while it plays the least role in climate change factors.

The deputy of the Environmental Protection Department asked the responsible international institutions to cooperate with the Islamic Emirate in dealing with the effects of climate change.

It should be noted that the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) was held in the United Arab Emirates not long ago without the presence of Afghanistan's representative in that country.
