Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson:

Iran Not to Hesitate to Punish Terrorists

17 Jan 2024 - 14:30

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kana’ani on Tuesday described the recent missile strikes on a Mossad headquarters in Iraq’s Erbil and the terror bases in Syria’s Idlib as Tehran’s defense of its sovereignty and partial punishment for harming the country’s security and stability.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Monitoring: “The action was in defense of the country’s sovereignty and stability, countering terrorism and was a part of the Islamic Republic’s just punishment against violators of the country’s security,” Kana'ani said.
He added his country has always supported peace, stability and security in the region and respected other countries' sovereignty, nonetheless, “Tehran will not hesitate to exercise its legitimate and legal right to deter all sources of threats against its national security, defend its citizens and punish the criminals”.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a Tuesday statement it has fired several ballistic missiles towards a Daesh base in Syria and a stronghold of the Israeli spy service Mossad in Iraq on Monday, in retaliation for recent bombings in Kerman province and terror attack on a police station in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
The missile strike against the Mossad center was in retaliation for the recent assassinations of the resistance front’s commanders by the Zionist regime, the statement read, referring to Israel’s assassination of Iran's senior military adviser Brigadier General Seyed Razi Mousavi, Deputy Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas Saleh Al-Arouri and top Hezbollah Commander Wissam Hassan Al-Tawil.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, ISIS or Daesh) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the fatal explosions in Kerman in early January which martyred more than 90 civilians, including several children and women.
Last month, another terrorist attack hit a police headquarters in the Southeastern city of Rask, martyring 11 police officers.
Kana’ani also stated the terrorist attacks that took place in Iran resulted from a “miscalculation by the enemy”, adding Tehran launched “a targeted operation” against positions of terrorists using “precise projectiles” after it identified them by drawing on its high intelligence capabilities.
“Terrorism is a global threat and Iran is determined to counter-terrorism within the framework of joint regional and international cooperation,” the diplomat concluded./Fars news
