World Food Program: $840 million is needed to help 7 million tons in Afghanistan

26 Nov 2023 - 17:18

The World Food Program says it needs $840 million in aid over the next six months to help around 7 million people in need in Afghanistan.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The World Food Program announced on Saturday in a report that in October it was able to help only 4.4 million needy people in Afghanistan with food and cash.

In this report, it is stated that 2 million tons received non-cash aid and 1 million people received cash remittances including some basic materials for winter.

The report adds that another part of this aid includes the provision of nutritional materials for lactating and pregnant women, infants and some school children.

The World Food Program (WFP) says it is trying to provide food aid to 6.5 million people in 386 districts of Afghanistan during the winter if funds are available.

Meanwhile, with the arrival of the cold season, a number of needy people in Kabul say that they cannot afford to buy the basic materials of their lives.

Meanwhile, according to the previous statistics of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 29.2 million people in Afghanistan currently need humanitarian aid.

Ocha added that the deportation of hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants from neighboring countries, including Pakistan, will increase the number of needy people in the coming winter.

Pakistan has started the process of deporting more than 1.7 million undocumented migrants in the past few weeks.
