Pakistani authorities: We have no plans to extend the deadline for deporting illegal Afghan immigrants from Pakistan

27 Oct 2023 - 11:15

The Minister of Interior of Pakistan has once again emphasized that undocumented Afghan immigrants are deported from this country and the government of this country has no plans to extend the deadline for the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The sources quoted Pakistan's Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti as saying that the decision to deport illegal immigrants after November 1 was "misinterpreted" and Pakistan's target was not only Afghans.

The Supreme Committee of the Government of Pakistan recently announced that all illegal immigrants living in the country have until November 1 to leave Pakistan.

This decision faced many criticisms inside Pakistan and Afghanistan. A number of human rights organizations also expressed concern about this.

The Interior Minister of the Government of Pakistan said in the Standing Committee of the Senate of Pakistan on Wednesday, the Octocer 25, that Pakistan's announcement about the departure of foreign immigrants has been "misunderstood" and "incorrect" impressions have been presented.

Sarfraz Bugti clarified: "We talked about deporting illegal residents, but this message was spread in such a way that we are deporting only "Afghans". The government's message was not only for Afghans; It was illegal for all immigrants."

He said that the Pakistani government will also deport Iranian illegal immigrants who belong to the Baloch community.

Pakistan's interior minister added that anyone with a refugee card or visa is "our guest".

The senior Pakistani official said he hoped a single-document system would be in place for travel to Pakistan after November 1, and that "everyone who wants to go to Pakistan will have a passport with them."

He emphasized that no country in the world allows anyone to come and live there illegally.

Pakistan's interior minister said there was currently no proposal to extend the deadline for deporting "illegal" immigrants, and officials would discuss it if such a proposal were made.

On the other hand, Pakistan creates special deportation centers to deport immigrants including 1.7 million Afghans who live in this country illegally.

Pakistani officials have said that if the migrants do not leave the country by the deadline, they will be sent to deportation center.

Jan Achakzai, the spokesman of the government in Balochistan, told the Associated Press on Thursday (October 26) that three deportation centers have been established in this city.

Azam Khan, the acting minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, also said that three deportation centers will be established in this province as well. "Immigrants living illegally in Pakistan must leave Pakistan before next Wednesday's deadline to avoid arrest," he said.

Meanwhile, the government of Pakistan has recently decided to deport more than one million Afghan immigrants from this country.
