In a meeting with the ambassador of the Spanish Embassy in Doha, the head of the Afghan Red Crescent said that the number of houses damaged by the earthquake in Herat is around 8,000, and the construction of houses before the arrival of winter is an urgent need of the residents of this region.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Afghan Red Crescent today (Monday, October 23, 2023) published a statement saying that Maulavi Muti-ul-Haq Khalis, acting general director of the Afghan Red Crescent, met with Ricardo Llosa, the ambassador of the Spanish embassy in Doha and talked about Afghanistan's economic problems, natural disasters and the services available in Afghan Red Crescent orphanages.
He said: "There are homeless families in the Afghan Red Crescent shelters, for whom all the facilities of life are provided, and in addition to the education of their children, their women are also given professional training."
The head of the Afghan Red Crescent added that currently the process of providing cash assistance to 24,000 widows in the whole country is underway, 80% of which is done by women.
In this meeting, he talked about the damages and needs of the people affected by the earthquake in Herat and said: the number of houses damaged by the earthquake is about 8000 and the construction of houses before the winter season is an urgent need of the residents of this area.
On the other hand, Ricardo Llosa said that the Spanish Red Cross has been a partner of the Afghan Red Crescent since the past and we know that there are problems in Afghanistan due to poverty and climate change.
Afroud said: "We do not want to politicize these problems. Rather, we want to continue our assistance to the people of Afghanistan."
The ambassador of the Spanish Embassy in Afghanistan stated: 12 percent of the aid announced by the United Nations to the victims of the Herat earthquake came from Spain.
He said: We appreciate the activities of the Afghan Red Crescent. I will try to encourage the Spanish Red Cross and the government to deliver the aid of the Spanish people to the people of Afghanistan through the Afghan Red Crescent.
