AVA - EU approves €3.5 million in aid for earthquake-hit people of Herat

A statement said that, EU is allocating €3.5 million (approximately 280,000,000 Afghanis) in emergency humanitarian aid to address the immediate needs of the quake-hit people of Afghanistan.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in drought-affected areas, a fresh allocation of €2.5 million is made available to existing humanitarian partners actively engaged in relief efforts. The statement said the primary focus of this support is to provide critical assistance, including emergency shelter, essential medical supplies, and improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation services.

“This new assistance comes in addition to the €89 million in humanitarian aid already allocated in 2023 for humanitarian organizations in the country. EU humanitarian aid in Afghanistan is solely channelled through our humanitarian partners on the ground,” it added.

Furthermore, the EU is extending in-kind assistance from its humanitarian reserves in Dubai through the European Humanitarian Response Capacity (EHRC) framework.

A comprehensive array of aid resources, including shelter kits, winterized tents, hygiene kits, and various essential supplies, are readily accessible to our humanitarian partners and tailored to address specific requirements.

These vital provisions are set for delivery via a newly organized flight within the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge initiative, with the overall operation projected to cost approximately €1 million. This marks the 31st flight orchestrated through this humanitarian air bridge, with the most recent one touching down on October 7th, underscoring our continued commitment to delivering vital assistance to those in need.
