Terrorist attacks have killed more than 700 people in Pakistan this year

1 Oct 2023 - 9:48

A new report published on Saturday, September 30, shows that terrorist attacks have increased in Pakistan and claimed the lives of more than 700 security forces and civilians in the first nine months of the year.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Independent Research and Security Studies Center based in Islamabad has said in its report that the number of casualties caused by terrorist attacks this year has increased by 19% compared to 2022, and the two states bordering Afghanistan have increased by 92 the percentage of total losses suffered.

The report states: "Pakistan's security forces have lost at least 386 personnel - including 137 army soldiers and 208 police personnel - which is 36 percent of all casualties, in the first nine months of 2023, which is the highest figure in the last eight years.

The Independent Research and Security Studies Center added in its report that 33 militant fighters under the command of the Pakistan Army were also among the dead.

However, according to data compiled by VOA from official statements by Pakistan's military, the country's military has so far confirmed the death of 214 soldiers and officers this year in counter-terrorist operations and insurgent attacks.

This report was published a day after Pakistani authorities confirmed that at least 62 people were killed in a series of attacks, including a suicide attack.

According to these officials, the most casualties were caused by a suicide attack in Mastung region of Balochistan province.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for this attack. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which has claimed responsibility for the deadliest attacks in Pakistan in recent months, has denied involvement in the Mastung attack.

Pakistan says that the militants of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have a base inside Afghanistan and since the Islamic Emirate took control of Afghanistan in August 2021, this situation has also emboldened the Pakistani Taliban to organize their cross-border attacks.

The Islamic Emirate has always denied this accusation and said that they do not allow any group to attack other countries.
