27 Sep 2023 - 12:24

A special court, which was established to deal with cases related to the State Secrets Act, extended the judicial detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice president, for another two weeks.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to Express Tribune, this ruling was issued on Tuesday, September 26, in the case of disclosure of confidential documents.

Earlier, the special court of Pakistan issued an arrest warrant for Imran Khan in this case until September 26.

Imran Khan, the leader of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party, was arrested by the police on August 5, after being sentenced to three years in prison by the Islamabad High Court in the case of receiving gifts from foreign countries.

However, on August 29 of this year, the Islamabad High Court suspended the three-year prison sentence of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in the embezzlement case and ordered his release on bail.

But the Pakistani authorities prevented his release, saying that he remains in custody in the case of leaking confidential documents.

In this case, he is accused of disclosing confidential information sent by the Pakistani ambassador to America for political benefits and against the country's official secrets law.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, a close aide of Khan and the former foreign minister of Pakistan, has also been arrested for his role in this case.

Imran Khan has always objected to the interference of the United States in his country's politics by citing this document.
