AVA - 1.3 million children to be immunised against polio in Afghanistan

A new polio vaccination campaign has been launched in Afghanistan, targeting 1.3 million children under the age of five.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, The campaign, which began on Monday, is being carried out by thousands of volunteers who will be going door-to-door over a period of four days.

The head of public health in Herat province, where the campaign is taking place, spoke to Bakhtar News Agency about the initiative.

Despite no cases of polio being reported in the western region of Afghanistan, the disease has been recorded in the east and north of the country. As such, health officials in Herat province are striving to keep their region polio-free for the fourth consecutive year through this vaccination campaign.
