The Afghan Red Crescent Society reports that more than 12,000 children with heart disease have been registered in the country, who are waiting for surgery and treatment.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Yesterday, Saturday, September 16, this institution published a statement saying that over the past 14 months, more than 1,770 children with heart failure have been referred to various hospitals in Afghanistan for surgery and treatment.
The announcement states: "Of these, nearly 1,500 children have recovered and returned to their homes. The rest are being treated in hospitals."
Also, the Afghan Red Crescent Society recently referred 48 children suffering from pediatric heart failure to two local hospitals for treatment and surgery.
This institution says that the Afghan Red Crescent will pay all the expenses for the surgery and treatment of these children. It is said that the cost of treating each child is up to 3500 US dollars, which most families cannot afford.
In the past, children suffering from heart failure, especially a hole in the heart, were transferred for treatment outside of Afghanistan, especially Germany, France, India, China and Pakistan.
But the officials of the Afghan Red Crescent Society have said that it is now possible to treat this type of disease in Kabul and a number of provinces.
There are no new statistics of children suffering from heart perforation in Afghanistan, but the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan reported 128,000 cases of this disease among children in 2019.
One of the causes of heart hole disease in babies is climate change. According to experts, in the preliminary stages of pregnancy, especially weeks three to eight, which are important for the development of the heart, if pregnant women are in contact with extremely hot weather, it is likely that they will give birth to a child with a heart defect.
Congenital heart defects have different forms, one common form of which is the existence of an extra and unusual hole in the inner walls of the heart, or the so-called common heart hole.
