Officials in the Prisons Regulatory Authority say that the Islamic Republic of Iran is the first country that has agreed with the Islamic Emirate on the transfer of Afghan prisoners.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Maulvi Mohammad Yusuf Masri, head of the Prisons Affairs Regulatory Authority, told an Ava reporter on Saturday (August 12, 2023) on the sidelines of a news conference that after the Islamic Emirate came to power, they are in line with the transfer of Afghan prisoners. They tried from other countries.
He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran is the first country that has announced its readiness in this field.
Based on Egyptian sayings; Last year, the Islamic Republic of Iran handed over 1,230 of the 6,000 Afghan prisoners to the Islamic Emirate and released some of them after completing their imprisonment.
He added that 4,000 Afghan citizens are currently imprisoned in the Islamic Republic, whose most crimes are drug trafficking, murder, adultery and other crimes.
Masri also said that in the first meeting with the delegation of the Islamic Emirate, the authorities of the Islamic Republic changed the death sentence of 250 Afghan citizens to imprisonment and also committed to hand over the remaining number of prisoners to Afghanistan.
He clarified that 1230 prisoners were transferred from Iran; they are currently imprisoned in the prisons of their respective provinces and are serving the remaining period of their imprisonment.
According to the Egyptian sayings; 400 Afghan prisoners are imprisoned in Iran for the crime of killing other Afghan citizens, and the Iranian government has refused to hand them over due to the lack of a release from the relatives of the victims.
He also announced the transfer of three prisoners from Kuwait in the past year and said that the Islamic Emirate has asked all countries to hand over Afghan prisoners to them.
Masri makes these statements while two days ago the Acting Minister of Refugees and Returnees said in a press conference that the Islamic Republic of Iran has handed over a thousand Afghan prisoners to the Islamic Emirate in the past one year.
