Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Russian President Vladimir Putin will not travel to South Africa to participate in the BRICS meeting, and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend the meeting instead of Putin.
According to ISNA, the Kremlin has not announced more details about the cancellation of this trip.
It is said that on March 16, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for the President of Russia in connection with the war in Ukraine.
This international court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin, claiming that he is suspected of illegally deporting children and illegally transferring residents of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
After this ruling, the Sunday Times of South Africa, in a report quoting several South African government officials, claimed that the country told Vladimir Putin not to attend the BRICS meeting scheduled to be held in Johannesburg in August because He may be arrested.
However, "Cyril Ramaphosa", the president of South Africa, responded to this sentence and said that he would withdraw his country from the International Court of Justice in The Hague so that Putin could visit South Africa.
The BRICS summit consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa is scheduled to be held in Johannesburg on August 22-23.
Following these positions, the western countries led by America increased the pressure against Johannesburg and the ambassador of Washington accused Johannesburg of sending weapons to Russia for use in the Ukraine war.
