The continuation of US air strikes on Somalia under the pretext of fighting terrorists

12 Jul 2023 - 10:36

The US military announced airstrikes in Somalia under the pretext of fighting the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The US Army announced airstrikes in Somalia against the positions of the terrorist group "Al-Shabaab" and killed a number of members of this group. The US military has carried out 12 airstrikes in Somalia so far this year.

According to news sources, Africom (US Africa Command) announced the death of 10 Al-Shabaab terrorists. These attacks were carried out three times on Sunday and Monday. America claims that it carried out these attacks to support the Somali army.

Kelly Kahlan, Africom's spokesperson, claimed that no civilians were killed in these airstrikes.

In the past, America had done wrong airstrikes on several occasions. On one occasion, a mistaken US drone attack on a car in Somalia led to the death of 6 people, including a 13-year-old boy. The US initially claimed that it carried out this attack near the city of "Janaleh" against ISIS-affiliated militants, but a Somali legal official denied this US claim. The US military later admitted to its mistaken attack.

Since 2007, American forces have carried out attacks in this African country under the pretext of fighting the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. America now has several hundred troops in Somalia. Last September, the Somali government launched an offensive against al-Shabaab, but the group has been able to rebuild itself.

Since 1991, Somalia has become the scene of civil war and since 2007, it has witnessed the insurgency of the Al-Shabaab armed group. This group is trying to overthrow the legal government of Somalia, and since then, it has carried out many terrorist operations in Mogadishu and other cities of Somalia, in such a way that a large number of people have been victims.

The al-Shabaab terrorist group was driven out of Somalia's capital Mogadishu in 2011 and lost many of its bases, but the group still controls many rural areas.

An American think tank announced in a research that more than 4.5 million people in West Asia and North Africa have lost their lives since 2001 as a result of America's warmongering.
