Japan donated 10 million dollars to the education of children in Afghanistan

7 Jul 2023 - 12:54

According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Japan has donated 10 million dollars to Afghanistan.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that the Japanese government has donated 10 million dollars to Afghanistan.

UNICEF announced today, Friday, July 7, that this assistance was provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This aid is supposed to be used in the field of children's education and provide conditions for the education of 71 thousand 500 children in the country.

The United Nations Children's Fund said in a statement that currently 60% of girls and 46% of boys in primary schools in Afghanistan are missing out on education.

According to the organization, even when students go to school, they are not always educated because decades of war have made schools unsafe places for students, and most public schools lack strong infrastructure, qualified teachers, and sanitary facilities.

This assistance from the Japanese government enables UNICEF to provide educational environments for 55,000 children in public schools in the central and eastern regions of Afghanistan.

With this help, UNICEF is renovating classrooms in the schools of these provinces and providing them with washing equipment.

In addition, with this amount, 16 thousand 500 children are supposed to continue their education for the next two years and 990 female teachers will also be trained.

Japan is one of the few countries that has helped Afghanistan in the field of education before and after the domination of the Islamic Emirate.

Takashi Okada, the ambassador of Japan in Kabul, said yesterday that his country will continue to help Afghanistan.

Four days ago, this country announced the awarding of dozens of scholarships to Afghan students at different levels.
