The US State Department signed a memorandum of understanding with the coalition for the evacuation of Afghans

14 Jun 2023 - 11:09

The US Secretary of State signed a new memorandum of understanding with the Afghan Evacuation Coalition, which will pave the way for the transfer of thousands of Afghans who have worked with the United States for the past twenty years.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Anthony Blinken said at a signing ceremony with the Afghan Evacuation Coalition on Monday that the United States is committed to the relocation and resettlement of its Afghan partners.

He emphasized that the transfer and relocation of Afghans who have worked with the United States is one of his responsibilities.

"When President Biden ended America's longest war in Afghanistan, he pledged that the United States would continue to relocate and resettle Afghan partners," Blinken said. "We are determined to fulfill this commitment, this is what we do together."

The Afghan Evacuation Coalition includes groups that facilitate the relocation and resettlement of Afghans in the United States. This coalition consists of about 200 groups and thousands of volunteers.

"The MOU allows us to share information with each other, coordinate our communications with other civil society partners, and persevere in our ongoing efforts to find more and better ways to serve our Afghan partners," Blinken said.

This is despite the fact that recently, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, asked the countries not to expel staff and experts from Afghanistan under the pretext of life threats.

During the evacuation operation from Afghanistan from August 15 to 30, 2021, more than 125 thousand people, mainly Afghan citizens, were evacuated from Afghanistan, and more than 80 thousand of them were transferred to America.
