26 May 2023 - 11:55

International media have reported, quoting local Egyptian authorities, that a ship with the Hong Kong flag named (Xin Hai Tong 23) ran aground in the Suez Canal yesterday (Thursday) and blocked this canal.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): International media, citing Egyptian authorities, have reported that a Hong Kong-flagged ship ran aground in the Suez Canal and blocked the canal.

It is said that these conditions have prevented at least four ships from passing behind the stranded ship.

According to this report, tugboats are trying to refloat the mentioned ship.

The Suez Canal is a 192 km long artificial waterway in Egypt that connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea.

This channel was built as a shortcut for ships and boats traveling from the ports of the European and American continents to the ports of Southeast Asia, East Africa, and the Oceania continent, so that they do not have to bypass the African continent or transfer goods by land.

The Suez Canal is the fastest shipping route between Europe and Asia and about 12% of the world's maritime trade is carried out through this canal.

In March 2021, a Japanese ship named "Over Goin" belonging to "Over Green" company had blocked this channel for several days.
