Barack Obama, the former President of the United States of America, said that the Americans have been so divided and divided by the polarizing media that they cannot even deal with controversial challenges based on a common understanding of reality.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Former US President Barack Obama said in an interview with CBS: "The biggest concern I have is because of the high level of pluralism in the discourse of our country." Part of the reason for that is that we have a multi-party media.
When America had only three major television networks, he added, "people were getting a similar understanding of what's true and what's not true, what's real and what's not real. Today, what I'm most concerned about this and it is true that due to the fact that there are several categories of media, we have almost adopted different realities.
Obama stated, previous generations of Americans could face issues based on a common view of the facts, even if there were disagreements over political decisions.
In the continuation of this interview, he said: "In the past, anyone could say, well, we may disagree on how to solve the problem, but at least we all agree that this problem exists. Now people say, well, this problem happened." It didn't happen, either I don't believe it or I don't care about the science or the experts don't care about me because they're all liberals. You know it's just conservative propaganda."
The former US president stated that one of his goals is to help America return to a "common discourse" based on a "common set of facts".
He had already warned, "The spread of false information" and the fragmentation of the media are making Americans more and more divided and making democracy "more complicated". Obama said in June 2018, a year after he left office, that his country's biggest problem is that people do not have a "common ground of truth" and that Russia exploited this weakness by "meddling" in the 2016 presidential election.
Barack Obama also made his recent comments about the disagreement about the facts in the United States, while he also said that the United States needs stricter restrictions on the issue of gun ownership.
