Pakistani Envoy Returns to Kabul

19 Apr 2023 - 17:44

After four months, surviving an attempted assassination in Afghanistan, the Chief of Pakistani’s diplomatic mission in Kabul returned to this country.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi and Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani, met in Kabul.

During the meeting, the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan stated that the return of Pakistan’s charge d’affaires in Afghanistan would improve ties between the two countries.

Muttaqi called the release of the vast majority of Afghans from Karachi’s prisons a welcome development and urged the release of the remaining Afghans before Eid ul Fitr.

Nizamani was also urged to “further increase transparency in the visa issuance process” by the Afghan foreign ministry.

“FM Muttaqi called the release of the majority of Afghans from Karachi prisons a positive step, calling for the remaining to be freed before the arrival of Eid ul-Fitr. He also encouraged Mr Nizamani to increase transparency in the visa issuance process further,” the statement said.

Nizamani, for his part, expressed the hope that his return would improve the ties between the two countries and added that the Pakistani Embassy would collaborate with the MoFA Afghanistan on a system to make obtaining visas easier.

After the attack on December 2, Nizamani left Afghanistan uninjured, although one security guard suffered significant injuries.

The Foreign Office later confirmed that Nizamani was the attack’s target. The attack, which occurred a month after the Pakistani ambassador took control of his office, was later claimed by the Islamic State-Khorasan.
