The Minister of Interior of Turkey announced that the death toll of the devastating earthquake last February in this country reached 50,500 people.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu announced the latest death toll from the devastating earthquake last February in the southeast of the country at 50,500.
According to "Azernews" news website, in addition to announcing these statistics, the Turkish Interior Minister said on Friday (April 14) that 20% of the displaced people of this earthquake who had left the place of the accident have returned to their former residences.
This Ankara government minister said that a total of 66,000 container houses have been built in the earthquake area and it is planned that this number will reach 100,000.
On February 6th, two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6 shook the southeastern regions of Turkey within nine hours and destroyed thousands of houses. These earthquakes and hundreds of aftershocks were felt in 11 provinces of Turkey and neighboring countries, especially Syria.
Even though more than two months have passed since the earthquake, the survivors say that they still have problems in meeting their basic needs, including shelter, water and food.
The casualties of this earthquake have continued to increase since its occurrence with the continued discovery and counting of bodies during debris removal.
While Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the eve of the elections promised to completely rebuild the earthquake affected areas of this country, various media strongly criticize the actions of the Turkish government after the earthquake.
Many claim that the Turkish government has declared the casualties of this earthquake to be less than its true extent and is trying to hide its true dimensions in response to criticism of its inadequacy in preparing the country for earthquakes and other natural disasters and its poor response to the incident.
