White House: America is not looking for an armed conflict with Iran

25 Mar 2023 - 13:19

Following the two recent attacks on illegal US military bases in Syria, John Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator of the White House Security Council, said: America is not looking for an armed conflict with Iran or another war in the region.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to CNN, John Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator of the White House Security Council, emphasized: America is not looking for war with Iran and we are looking for a military confrontation with Iran or any other country in the region. We are not, but the Biden administration will do whatever it takes to defend its forces and facilities.

The strategic communications coordinator of the White House Security Council added: We continue our mission in Syria, which is to defeat ISIS, and protect our forces and bases against the attacks of Iran-backed groups in Syria.

John Kirby said: These groups do not want to see the presence of America in Iraq and Syria and they are trying to make us leave these countries.

He clarified: As we have said before and we will say again, our mission against ISIS remains and we will continue it.

US President Joe Biden also said on Friday that the US is not seeking a military confrontation with Iran, but will respond with force to protect its military personnel in Syria and elsewhere.

Biden stated this in a statement after the air attack on the illegal US military base in the al-Omar oil field near the border of Syria and Iraq.

The President of the United States, who has visited Canada, said in a speech in Ottawa: He has ordered a retaliatory air attack on the bases of the resistance groups in Syria.

While issuing a strong warning to Iran, Biden added: The United States is not looking for war with Iran, but the United States is ready to act with force to protect its citizens. Just like what happened last night.

Also, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said in an interview with Al Jazeera Qatar on Friday night that we are not looking for a conflict with Iran and our mission in Syria is to ensure the complete destruction of ISIS.

Regarding the airstrikes last night in eastern Syria, Ryder added: The strikes we carried out in Syria were to protect our forces.

The spokesperson of the Pentagon stated that we carried out 2 separate attacks on 2 facilities in eastern Syria and said: We reserve the right to respond appropriately if our forces are targeted.

Ryder also claimed: Iran supports the militias that attacked the Americans in northeastern Syria.

He went on to claim that we are sure that the drone that targeted our facilities in Syria was Iranian, and said: It is Iran's responsibility not to violate security and stability in the region.
On Friday morning, the media reported the bombing of areas of Deir Ezzor province in eastern Syria.

A few hours later, the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) confirmed the air strike on the city of Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria.

The Reuters news agency quoted the Pentagon as reporting: These airstrikes on Syria were carried out in response to the injuries of American soldiers in the previous attack.

The US Ministry of Defense announced that the Central Command of the country's army carried out airstrikes on facilities that were used by the resistance groups in the east of Deir Ezzor.

The Pentagon claimed that this attack was carried out following the killing of one American soldier and the wounding of five other American soldiers, which was carried out by one of the groups on the base of the international coalition against ISIS near al-Hasakah in eastern Syria.

Hours after this announcement, the Al-Mayadeen network reported that the American military base in the Omar oil field was targeted by several missiles.
