An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 in the center of Turkey shook many parts of Western Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean and has left at least 140 dead and thousands injured.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVV): An earthquake measuring 7.8 degrees on the Richter scale, centered in Turkey, shook many parts of West Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Turkish media reports indicate that the earthquake occurred on the border between Turkey and Syria and 26 kilometers northeast of Gaziantep, Turkey.
Initial reports indicated that this earthquake was recorded in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and parts of Ukraine and Europe including Greece, Bulgaria, etc.
The intensity of the earthquake was such that people came to the streets at night in many cities of Turkey, Syria and Lebanon, fearing the collapse of buildings and aftershocks, in the cold of winter.
Initial reports indicate that at least 100 people were killed and 350 others were injured in various cities in Turkey and Syria following the earthquake last night.
The embassy of Saudi Arabia in Ankara has reported that at least 6 citizens of this country were killed in this earthquake.
Following this heartbreaking incident, Turkey has asked for help from various countries and international institutions.
In a report on the latest earthquake situation in the country, Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said: "Until now, at least 6 aftershocks with a magnitude greater than 6 on the Richter scale have been recorded in Turkey, the largest of which was 6.6 on the Richter scale.
In his first reaction to this incident, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: "It is still not possible to provide a clear estimate of the amount of material and human damage caused by the earthquake."
He added: "All institutions and organizations under the command of the Disaster and Emergencies Department are on full alert level 4, which includes the request to send international aid."
Erdoğan also wished good health to the victims of the earthquake in Kahraman Maresh Province and announced: the Ministries of Health and the country, as well as the Department of Accidents and Emergencies and the departments of all provinces and all other institutions should continue the relief work as soon as possible.
