At the same time as China's action and holding "strike drills", Taiwan's government announced Beijing's biggest attack on its air defense zone.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The government of Taiwan announced today (Monday, 5th of January) that 71 aircraft of the Chinese Air Force, including fighter jets and drones, have entered Taiwan's air defense detection zone in the past 24 hours.
Taiwan's official Central News Agency said it was China's biggest air force attack to date.
Taiwan's Ministry of Defense announced in a report that, in continuation of its military activities near this island, in addition to anti-submarine warfare and drones, Beijing has flown 43 aircraft through the middle line of the Taiwan Strait, an unofficial barrier between the two sides located in the defense zone.
China, which claims Taiwan as its territory, announced on Sunday that it had conducted "strike drills" in the sea and airspace around Taiwan in response to what it called provocative actions by the democratic island and the United States.
Taiwan, which strongly rejects China's sovereignty claims, said the maneuvers showed Beijing was destroying regional peace and trying to intimidate the Taiwanese people.
In a military ceremony this morning, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen once again emphasized Taiwan's need to strengthen its defense capacity due to China's "continuous expansion of authoritarianism".
Tsai told the officers present, "The more prepared we are, the less chance of a hasty invasion, and the more united we are, the stronger and safer Taiwan will be."
