US President Joe Biden signed an agreement with Sweden and Finland to join NATO. It is said that this was done to strengthen the West against Russia.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The White House has announced on Tuesday, August 9, that before the contract signing ceremony, Biden had a telephone conversation with Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson and Finnish President Sauli Niinisto.
The White House added: "President Biden congratulated Finland and Sweden on the swift and bipartisan passage of the NATO accession protocols by the US Senate and welcomed their move to become NATO allies."
In early August, the US Senate voted 95 to 1 in favor of the accession of the Nordic countries, making the United States the 23rd of the 30 NATO countries to formally approve the accession request. For new membership in the coalition, unified support is needed.
