6 Aug 2022 - 9:10

Following China's sharp reactions to the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives to Taiwan, Beijing announced that it has sanctioned Pelosi and her first-class family members.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the situation of Ukraine and Taiwan are not comparable in any way, and announced the sanctions against the Speaker of the US House of Representatives and his first-class family members.
Hua Chunying; The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China announced today, Friday (August 5) that Pelosi and her first-class family members were sanctioned for traveling to Taiwan.

"What is happening in Ukraine cannot be compared to what is happening in Taiwan," Hua said during a press conference in Beijing. 160 countries considered Pelosi's visit to Taiwan provocative and a violation of the One China principle.

According to "Xinhua" news agency, he further explained: "Pelosi's trip is provocative and undermines peace and security. Pelosi's trip worsened the situation in the Taiwan Strait.

This Chinese diplomat said: "Washington wants to interfere in the internal affairs of the Taiwan Strait, which is against international standards.”Our reaction is justified and appropriate to the current developments and Pelosi's trip to Taiwan."

Hua also announced that the foreign ministers of South Korea and Nepal will visit China this month.

At the same time, John Kirby, the coordinator of strategic communications at the National Security Council of the White House, announced early Friday that Washington postponed the test of the "Minuteman" intercontinental ballistic missile to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Pelosi's visit to Taiwan was the first visit by a speaker of the US House of Representatives to this island since 1997. Upon arriving in Taiwan, Pelosi tweeted: "Traveling to Taiwan demonstrates my commitment to a vibrant democracy."

Taiwan is considered a part of China that has separatist claims; Claims that the countries of the world and the United Nations do not recognize.

Beijing has always opposed any contact between Taiwanese representatives and Western officials, especially high-ranking political or military officials from countries with which Beijing has diplomatic relations, saying such visits violate the one-China principle and send the wrong signals to Taiwan's separatist forces.
