Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Yesterday, the American government declared a state of emergency in connection with the widespread outbreak of monkey pox in this country.
Last week, the World Health Organization declared this disease a global emergency.
According to Xinhua, US Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra told reporters at a press conference, "We are ready to take our response to this virus to the next level, and we urge all Americans to take monkey pox seriously."
As of Thursday, the United States had recorded more than 6,600 monkey pox cases, accounting for 25 percent of the global total.
In the whole world, 28,500 cases of monkey pox have been identified so far.
The states of New York, California, and Illinois have recorded the most cases of monkey pox in the United States.
The monkey pox virus is mainly transmitted by prolonged physical contact, such as hugging and kissing, sharing towels and clothing, or sleeping in the bed of an infected person.
According to reports, a large proportion of those affected have been men who are homosexual. However, experts say that this virus can be transmitted to anyone.
