Termez-Kabul-Peshawar railway to Start Soon

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry announced that, Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif and Peshawar railway lines will start soon.


Afghan Voice Agency(AVA)_Monitoring, Vladimir Nurov the Uzbek Foreign Minister, while speaking to Turkish and Azeri officials, on Tuesday, stressed that this rail line should be built soon, Uzbek media have reported.

Lately, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghan Foreign Minister, after returning from Tashkent, mentioned the start of the railway line extension project and said that he had discussed with the Uzbek authorities the start of construction work of the railway line.

Pakistani envoy, Mohammad Sadiq Khan in Afghanistan, announced that Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have started the practical steps to initiate the Trans-Afghan railway line to establish rail connections between Kabul and Peshawar.

The construction of this railway line is said to be an infrastructure project not only for Afghanistan but also for the region.

The railway line project connects Central Asia to South Asia through Afghanistan and the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan through the railway to the water ports of Pakistan and other countries.

Afghanistan is the only country that has the least number of railway lines, except for the construction of the Afghan-Trans project, which will play a much more important role in connecting the countries of the region.

The estimated value of the “Tramez-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar” railway project is equivalent to 5 billion dollars, which is 720 kilometers long.

The Afghan rail network from Mazar-e Sharif to Kabul and then to Jalalabad province, where the railway would cross the Torkham border and run into Pakistan via Peshawar.

Once in Pakistan, goods will be offloaded to connect with the Pakistan rail system and from there will eventually travel down to the Pakistani seaports of Karachi, Gwadar, and Qasim.
