AVA - Kajaki dam base will be launched next week

Helmand province is scheduled to be switched the Kajaki Dam’s hydro-electric plant on this week after repairs were completed on the turbines.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, Local officials said once up and running, the plant is expected to produce 100 megawatts of electricity – for Helmand and Kandahar residents.

Experts have meanwhile said, this step is important in terms of producing energy and managing the country’s water supplies.

“Dry lands will be irrigated by this dam, Afghanistan’s money will not leave the country [to pay for power] and job opportunities will be provided for the residents of this province,” said Abdul Nasir Reshtai, an economic analyst.

“If we restore more, this dam will provide electricity to the southern areas, and it will be beneficial to the economic growth of these areas,” said Shabir Bashiri, another economic analyst.
