The UN Security Council is holding a meeting focusing on Afghanistan

According to the Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting today (Thursday, May 2) focusing on Afghanistan. The subject of this meeting is believed to be in connection with yesterday morning earthquake in Paktika and Khost provinces.


Afghan Voice Agency (AVA), At this meeting, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will present his report on Afghanistan.
 
Rams Al-Akbarov, UN Under-Secretary-General for Special Representative for Humanitarian Aid and UNAMA's Director-General, will also report to the Security Council.
 
UNAMA has not commented on the agenda of the UN Security Council meeting. The meeting is also expected to discuss the recent catastrophic earthquake.
 
A strong earthquake shook eastern Afghanistan, including Paktika and Khost provinces, on Tuesday night.
 
According to the latest statistics provided by the Islamic Emirate, more than a thousand people have been killed and more than 1,500 injured in the Gyan and Barmal districts of the province alone.
 
The leader of the Islamic Emirate has called on aid organizations to cooperate in dealing with the earthquake victims.
 
Meanwhile, some countries in the region have announced their readiness to provide assistance. In some provinces, citizens have also launched a campaign to raise funds for the victims.
