Allocation of $ 793 million for three major projects in Afghanistan by the World Bank

The World Bank announced yesterday (Friday, June 3th) a $ 793 million budget allocation for Afghanistan. According to the organization, the budget will focus on three major projects in the areas of food security, rehabilitation and livelihood of Afghan society, and the provision of essential health services.


Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The World Bank has said that all three projects outside the control of the Islamic Emirate will be implemented through UN agencies and non-governmental organizations.

The World Bank said in a statement issued Friday (June 3rd) that the projects are designed to help women and girls.

According to the statement, the Afghanistan Emergency Food Security Project will help produce food for farmers and prevent further deterioration of food security.

The project focuses on wheat production and will support about 300,000 households in the November 2022 planting season and another 300,000 households in the March to November 2023 planting season. The project is estimated to cost $ 195 million.

Another $ 265 million project entitled "Rehabilitation and Livelihood of Afghan Society" will help provide short-term livelihood opportunities and provide urgent essential services in rural and urban areas.

The project aims to provide livelihood opportunities and income for one million households in 6,450 rural communities across Afghanistan and the cities of Bamyan, Herat, Jalalabad, Kabul, Kandahar, Khost, Kunduz and Balkh.

In addition, another 9.3 million Afghans in rural areas will benefit from basic services such as clean water and road reconstruction.

The third project focuses on providing essential health services. The aim of this project is to support women and children in accessing basic health services. The total cost of this project is $ 333 million.
