Afghanistan Complains To UN About Cross-Border Shelling By Pakistan

Acting Foreign Minister Haneef Atmar told the special session of the House of Representatives that the Afghan government has complained to the UN about the cross-border rocket attacks by Pakistan.


During the Saturday session of Parliament, the foreign minister, the minister of interior, the joint chief of staff and the deputy of the national directorate of security, to question over Pakistan’s shelling on parts of Kunar.
Speaker of the Lower House Mir Rahman Rahmani’s press office said that members of parliament (MPs) condemned the Pakistani attacks and called on Atmar to pursue the issue through diplomatic channels and seek a lasting solution.
The MPs reminded the security officials to equip the armed forces in Kunar province in terms of personnel and weapons to the “last limit” in line with diplomatic efforts and good neighbourliness.
Although the meeting was held behind closed doors and there were no comments, Hanif Atmar reportedly stressed that the Afghan government had complained to the UN about the incident.
Atmar added that the Pakistani military had also discussed the Afghan protest with their government at least thrice in recent days and had also summoned their envoy to Afghanistan.
The Office of the National Security Council (NSC) said that senior security officials discussed the attacks at their weekly meeting and presented their proposal, discussing a permanent solution to the problem, to the parliament.
Meanwhile, Abdul Ghani Mosamim, spokesperson for the governor of Kunar, told Reporterly that Pakistani troops had fired rockets at Sarkano district and Asadabad city, the provincial capital, on Wednesday last week. Final civilian casualties include eight killed and 10 wounded.
He said the Afghan military had also responded to the Pakistani attacks.
Protestors in Kabul city gathered in front of the Pakistani embassy on Saturday.
The sprayed red paint on the gates and walls of the building and demanded an end to the attacks across the Durand Line.
