The Afghan government will release 900 Taliban militants by the end of today, sources in Office of the National Security Council said.
The sources further added that the government will release the prisoners from various prisons.
This comes as the Office of National Security Council announced Monday that the government has released 100 Taliban prisoners.
Ghani, on Monday, responded to the gesture of goodwill by Taliban group and vowed to release 2,000 Taliban prisoners.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said President Ghani convened a meeting in ARG Palace late on Sunday to discuss the release of Taliban prisoners in return to Taliban’s gesture of goodwill for announcing ceasefire during Eid Days.
Ghani had earlier ordered the Afghan forces to return to defense posture while welcoming the announcement of ceasefire by Taliban during Eid Days.
In his speech on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, Ghani vowed that the government would expedite the release of Taliban prisoners.
