Twenty-eight people's uprising forces were killed in clashes with the Taliban in northern Takhar and Balkh provinces last night, officials said Monday.
Nineteen of the forces were killed in Khwaja Ghar district of Takhar province, said Javad Hijri, a spokesman for provincial governor.
Five others were wounded in the clash, he said adding reinforcements were deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, police in Balkh said that nine members of people's uprising forces were killed in clash with militants in Sholgara district.
Adil Shah Adil, a spokesman for provincial police, said that five others including a child were wounded in the violence.
The clash left also three Taliban militants including their commander dead, he said.
