Militants' attacks registered amid observing "reduction in violence" in Afghanistan

Cases of militancy and attacks by armed insurgents on the security forces have been registered in the militancy-plagued Afghanistan while the Taliban group was observing the seven-day reduction in violence over the past couple of days, local media reported Wednesday.

"On the fourth day of reduction in violence, three cases of militants' attacks which killed five security personnel and wounded 14 others were registered," the Daily Afghanistan-e-Ma quoted Interior Ministry Spokesman Nasrat Rahimi as saying.
Quoting the official, the paper added that the Taliban attacked a logistic convoy of security forces in Ghazni province and also organized roadside bombs against the security forces in the western Farah and southern Zabul provinces on Tuesday.
According to the paper, the interior ministry also registered militants' attacks on the checkpoints of pro-government militiamen in Charkent district of the northern Balkh province on Monday.
Similarly, the militants abducted the governor of Dara-e-Suf Bala district in the northern Samangan province on Monday and released his photo with tied hands held next to a cave guarded by armed militants on Tuesday.
However, the Taliban outfit has yet to claim responsibility for the attacks on security forces and abduction of any government employee since observing violence reduction started on Saturday.
Peace talks between the United States and the Taliban began in October 2018 but interrupted at least twice after Taliban attacks on U.S. military personnel in September and December last year.
The seven-day reduction in violence which started on Feb. 22 is supposed to be followed by a U.S.-Taliban peace agreement on Feb. 29 to end the war in Afghanistan and paves the way for withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country.
